Lokovhela Mountain Cottages is an ideal stopover for travelers to the north. Lokovhela Mountain Cottages is a small self-catering lodge remotely located in our Morning Sun Nature Reserve, situated at a high altitude where the malaria carrying mosquito cannot survive. We have had no incidence of malaria and are regarded as a malaria free destination.
Accommodation is offered in cool thatched roof en-suite chalets. Each room has 3 single beds, and a tea- and coffee tray. Hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided in winter.
Guests can make use of a communal shared fully equipped kitchen, and a communal lounge with a TV and dining room with an indoor fireplace. Outside braai facilities are available, and the lodge has a lovely swimming pool. Enjoy tranquil hiking trails on the reserve, next to the mountain river.

Each cottage has its own en-suite bathroom with a king-size bed (by arrangement 2 single beds) An extra single bed can be arranged for an additional adult or teenager or a bunker bed for 2 children 13 years and younger.
Valley View Cottage includes it’s own kitchen, 1 bedroom on top floor with 4 single beds to share a bathroom with shower on the first floor, King size bed on first floor with en-suite bathroom with a bath, dining area, lounge area and fireplace. Also a braai area exclusive to the cottage. There is also a play area for children and a swimming pool.
Local area description
Morning Sun Nature Reserve offers a variety of drives and walks on the property. Guests are welcome to book these activities on arrival. There is a big beautiful waterfall and a guided walk is offered to the waterfall passing the Mashovhela Rock Pool, a sacred site to the Venda people. We also offer Venda Cultural or Venda Arts and Crafts Day Tours in the area and you can choose to use our vehicle and guide or you can use your vehicle and book a hop on guide. Mapungubwe World Heritage site is definitely worth experiencing, take a tour and let the guide tell you all about the history of the first Kingdom established in South Africa or hop on a 4 x 4 safari vehicle and go for a Game Drive to view the big 5 in the park, only 1 and a half hours drive. Musina Baobab Nature Reserve is about an hour’s drive from us; take a 2 hour tour inside the park to view the most awesome Baobab trees that only grows in this area. The Pafuri gate of Kruger National Park is only 1.5 hour’s drive from us.
Things to do in and around Louis Trichardt: The Albasini dam for fishing. The Zoutpansberg Skirmishes Route is for avid history buffs, and anyone interested in how this set of mountains was involved in the Anglo Boer War. Visit Lajuma research centre, it is a natural heritage site and not only has breathtaking views with exquisite plant and animal life but also has fascinating archaeological sites. ”Die Padstal” is full to the brim with interesting finds and delicious treats.
Ons was op soek na ‘n oornagplek, en waarskynlik het ek nie die aanwysings korrek gelees nie, maar dis nogal ver van die N1 af op ‘n taamlike slegte pad. Ons het donker daar aangekom. Maar fantastiese ontvangs deur die werkers Andrew en Irene. Daar was ‘n heerlike kaggelvuur aangesteek, die hoofslaapkamer was goed verwarm, en Andrew het selfs ons braaivleisvuur aangesteek. Die volgende oggend kon ons sien hoe mooi die plek is. Dis ‘n bestemming op sy eie, beslis nie ‘n oornagplek naby die N1 nie.
